Working to accelerate global collaboration on under-researched areas of children’s mental health and expand worldwide access to culturally appropriate training, resources, and treatment.
Established with a foundational grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the center brings together experts, communities, youth and families worldwide to transform children’s mental health care— making quality treatment accessible and equitable for all.
Together, we are building a global support system that creates pathways to lasting change by:
As many as 1 in 5 children globally struggle with mental health or learning challenges, yet many low and middle-income countries (LMICs) do not have a single child and adolescent psychiatrist.
Children and adolescents in Greece, like their peers around the world, face a troubling lack of access to mental health care. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI) seeks to address this by combining local and international expertise to empower frontline professionals and enhance care.
In Brazil, significant gaps in mental health care mean that nearly 80 percent of children and adolescents with mental health conditions do not receive the support they need. We are working to reduce this gap by strengthening systems, training professionals, and adapting evidence-based tools to the Brazilian context.
In South Africa, approximately 13 percent of adolescents aged 10 -19 have a diagnosed mental disorder, with anxiety and depression accounting for roughly 40 percent of these diagnoses. Amidst numerous other public health challenges, youth mental health challenges are often overlooked and underfunded. We are working with local organizations who are trying to bring critical training and support to this under-resourced sector.
The SNF Global Center pioneers new pathways in mental health care through six interconnected, science-backed initiatives.
Mapping child and adolescent mental health resources, innovations, and needs worldwide to identify opportunities for maximum impact.
Making evidence-based mental health training accessible worldwide and equipping professionals and local communities with culturally adapted tools to deliver quality care.
Pioneering innovative technologies from concept to launch: We build and test digital solutions from mobile apps to advanced analytics – then deploy proven tools that make mental health care more accessible.
Sharing knowledge and engaging resources that increase mental health literacy, fight stigma, and empower communities to take action.
Creating innovative fellowship programs that empower diverse professionals to transform child and adolescent mental health care in their communities.
Connecting diverse mental health leaders to share knowledge, spark innovation, and create powerful networks for change.
We are grateful to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) for providing generous funding support to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI) and the SNF Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Child Mind Institute programming via its Global Health Initiative (GHI).
