Erin Shanahan

Erin Shanahan is a psychology extern in the Autism Center at the Child Mind Institute. She is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in the School Psychology program at Fordham University, where she also received her Bachelor of Science in psychology. Ms. Shanahan has experience working in various research, clinical, and education settings around New York. Specifically,she is interested in working with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities who require special education and clinical care.

Within the research context, Ms. Shanahan has worked with children with Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is currently working on a research project at Fordham University with Dr. Annie George-Puskar regarding the preschool transition in New York City classrooms.

Clinically, Ms. Shanahan has worked with a various of diverse client profiles but particularly enjoys working with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She has received training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and person-centered therapy (PCT).She also has experience conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations with children. 

Ms. Shanahan has also worked with children in various school settings, notably as a behavioral specialist at the Harry H. Gordon School and as a kindergarten classroom teacher in the Warwick Valley Central School District. As part of this work, Ms. Shanahan has conducted classroom observations and consulted with teachers regarding student behavioral and academic issues.

Ultimately, Ms. Shanahan is interested in pursuing a clinical psychology career working in schools, clinics, and private settings with children in need of therapy, consultation, and psychoeducational/neurological testing. She is committed to providing exceptional, individualized care as she supports children, adolescents, and young adults with autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities.
